Friends of the Folsom Library raise over $22,000!
The Friends of the Folsom Library have been keeping up their efforts to improve and contribute to library services in Folsom since the grand opening of the Folsom Public Library Georgia Murray Building in February. Since that time, volunteers working in the Friends' Booktique (a used book store located at the library) have raised over $17,000, with an additional $5,000 raised at the semi-annual book sale. Community members continue to contribute by purchasing Book Spines, personalized ceramic or wood pieces that are mounted permanently in the library on a decorative framework. The ceramic Book Spines are in the children’s area while the wood Book Spines are located in the adult wing. For more information about these spines, visit the Friends of the Folsom Library's website.
Special programs and materials receive funding!
These collective monies have been used to fund a wish list of materials and special programs to augment the library’s community offerings, presented to the Board of Directors of the Friends by library staff. Wish list items included funding prizes for the Summer Reading Program, sponsoring the popular F.L.A.S.H. (formerly Homework Place), supporting the Wild Wednesday storytime in conjunction with the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary, providing programming for Senior First Fridays, purchasing foreign language materials, funding artwork for the children’s wing, purchasing children’s music, sponsoring children and teen Book Clubs, purchasing English as a Second Language materials, purchasing the library's movie license, purchasing a paging system for library staff, and funding storyteller events.
Thank you volunteers!
As all of these contributions are not possible without volunteers and the support of the community, community members are enthusiastically encouraged to contribute to our wonderful library by becoming a member of this dynamic organization, shopping in the Booktique, attending book sales, purchasing Book Spines, and/or volunteering. Check out the Friends of the Folsom Library website for more information on these and other opportunities: www.FriendsoftheFolsomLibrary.org.
